GPM Orphans’ Farm – The Plot Thickens

In our last blog we announced the exciting news that Glory Power Ministries (GPM) now has electricity for the water pump at GPM’s orphans’ farm in Magona, South Africa. The farm has over 2 hectares (5.5 acres) of land and a few years ago Pastor Patrick, of the nearby Glory Power Center began farming a small section of this land. A well was drilled and a drip irrigation system was installed. Utilizing a generator, water was pumped through the irrigation system to water the crops. On this small plot was grown tomatoes, beets, spinach and other vegetables to sustain the orphans in the village of Magona, and extra produce were sold to the community to buy additional staples for the orphans.

With a vision of feeding many more orphans and to selling additional produce at a nearby market, GPM believed God would provide. The recent installation of electricity made this a reality, and now the water can be pumped using a transformer. The transformer pumps four times more water than the generator; thus, more land can be farmed. GPM has now begun plans to farm the entire 2 plus hectares. This will be achieved in multiple stages starting with over 1 hectare (2.5 acres) this season.

A tractor was recently rented to plow the land, and additional piping is being installed (see picture) for the irrigation system. Seeds and supplies have been purchased, and a bountiful harvest of tomatoes, spinach, cabbage, beets and onions is expected some time around September. The plan is for the farm to make the Glory Power Center in Magona financially self-sustaining by the end of the second growing season in early 2017.

This is the model for GPM’s work in South Africa – provide food, clothes, love and spiritual support to many orphans and destitute, build churches and homes for orphans, teach and mentor pastors and leaders to disciple many, provide financial independence for the churches and much more.
